Gary Howl BA MSc C.Psychol

Gary is a Chartered Psychologist with over twenty years experience in the field of dyslexia.

Born in Birmingham, he gained BA (Hons) Psychology and an MSc in Psychology at the University of Warwick during the 1980s.

He then joined the psychology organisation SHL where he achieved Chartered Psychologist status.

Gary started his own consultancy in the early 1990s, first of all in Greater London, and then in Suffolk. In 1992 he was invited by the renowned Educational Psychologist, Martin Turner, to join the consultancy team at Dyslexia Action (formerly the Dyslexia Institute). He taught Advanced Level Psychology at St Felix School, Southwold.
He returned to the Midlands in 2006 when he set up the psychology consultancy Hidden Disability Ltd. The company changed its name to Solihull Dyslexia Centre in 2011.

Gary is well known for putting both children and adults at their ease when they come for assessment. His clients include a number of schools, colleges and universities in the Midlands, The General Medical Council, Solihull MBC, West Midlands Ambulance Service, Heart of Birmingham PCT, Healthcare RM and Heath Lambert Consulting.
He also carries out assessments on behalf of a number of legal firms and also for the specialist lawyer, John Mackenzie, who is a trustee of the British Dyslexia Association. His high quality reports contain expert analyses of specific learning difficulties and straightforward recommendations for both education and the workplace.

Gary is registered with the British Psychological Society and the Health Professions Council. He has undergone Enhanced CRB checks witnessed by Dyslexia Action and DAB (Dyslexia Association Birmingham).


He lives in Solihull with his partner and children.
